SCRIBBLENAUTS UNLIMITED OBJECT SHARDS HOW TO
If you got a Wii U or 3DS for the holidays, or want to play it on the PC, Scribblenauts Unlimited is highly recommended for older children (who know how to read) or the kid in all of us. It was a pleasantly surprising experience to be curled up in my armchair in my bedroom playing the game on Christmas Eve morning before I headed on my commute to meet my family. Shortly thereafter, I decided to play Scribblenauts Unlimited entirely on my Wii U Gamepad. My roommate Ryan – who has helped me test a lot of Wii U games this Fall – tried it out but found it wasn’t for him and wasn’t as intuitive as other games we’ve tried together. There is local co-op multiplayer where another player can use a Wii Remote to take control of any object the player with the Gamepad created. (No creating Iron Man for me, no matter how much I tried.) You can even access Nintendo-themed bonus content like objects from the Zelda universe, but that’s the only copyrighted stuff you can use. You can create more advanced items and then share them online. There’s even an Object Editor which I never even found the need to use because I was having so much fun with the basic notebook. Of course, you can keep going, especially since there are 500+ Starite shards to collect and turn into a full Starite when you have obtained enough. You’ll traverse 40+ levels with more than 60+ Starites you’ll need 60 to “complete” the game-as in, get an ending. Plus, if you’re really stuck, you can even activate Starite Vision to see which missing Starite shards (shown in yellow) you haven’t collected in the level yet. But that’s ok, because the puzzles are so quick and so fun, you’ll be onto the next one in no time and will forget about the previous one. The game will often force the answer upon you, whether through its hint system that is time-delayed, or when it cheats and pretends that scientist you chose is a psychiatrist. Need to help someone get past a Yeti on a mountain? Make him “gentle” or “nice.” You can even add adjectives to certain things within the world. See a girlfriend upset her boyfriend never is romantic? Give her chocolates or roses. But wouldn’t it be much more fun to use a jetpack? Or a cannon to get up there? In Scribblenauts Unlimited, however, you’ll spend the majority of your time trying to make other people happy. You create the object by spelling out its name on the Wii U Gamepad and then dragging it where you need it to go.

You use those objects to interact with people and items in a variety of worlds like pirate ships, diners, spaceports and more. If you’ve never played a Scribblenauts game before, you control Maxwell and create objects (just about anything that isn’t copyrighted or inappropriate) from a magic notebook.

But honestly? The storybook plotline of this game couldn’t have interested me less-since the other 99% of the game was pure delightful and addicting. Scribblenauts Unlimited is the first game of the franchise that intended to expand the story and the worlds in which the main character, Maxwell, finds himself in according to a developer interview I did earlier this fall.įans curious as to why he felt the need to collect Starites or where his magic notebook came from… those questions are answered in this game.
